Designing a Meditation Corner with Tatami
A meditation corner need not occupy an entire room. In many Indian apartments, a single Tatami mat defines a boundary between the bustle of daily life and a space reserved for stillness.
Choosing the right size
For seated meditation, a half mat (approximately 90 × 90 cm) often suffices. For lying practice or yoga, consider a full single mat (90 × 180 cm) or larger.
Surrounding elements
Keep the palette restrained — natural wood, linen, and muted ceramics complement Igusa without competing. A low stool, a single branch in a ceramic vase, or a paper lantern can complete the atmosphere without clutter.
The Igusa fragrance itself becomes part of the practice — a sensory cue that this corner is set apart from the rest of the home.
